About Bennetts Removals
Always destined to be involved in the
furniture moving business.
It seems – one way or another – John has been involved in the removal business since he was just a little kid. His mother, Glenda Dawe, took him to work with her. She worked for Mason's Removals, her sister's company, answering the telephone combined with a variety of other administrative tasks. By the time John was sixteen, having some insight into what it all entailed, he also went to work for Mason's. But in 1988, after two years of moving furniture, he decided it was not for him.
After driving National Welsh Bustler minibuses for a year he progressed to working for Hawkin's Antiques, collecting items from auctions all over the UK and France, bringing them back to his home town, Barry, in The Vale of Glamorgan. Here, a lot of items were successfully sold and he added another string to his bow, learning about shipping antiques all over the world.
By the time he was twenty one he had a thirst to broaden his horizons. It was 1991 and the USA sounded exciting. Living for two years in the Hollywood Hills and the customer skills he developed working in a five-star restaurant in Beverly Hills proved an invaluable experience. Two years quenched the thirst and he began to think of home and how to make a fortune there.
Buying and selling antiques sounded more lucrative than it turned out to be and learning about its unpredictably, only persevered with it for a year or so. What he knew best was the removal business and he was earning more, moving things. It was a constant, people have and always will move, for whatever reason and he knew the business like the back of his hand.
In 1995 - with the help of a Princes Trust Loan – John established Bennetts Removals and in 2015 celebrated twenty years in the business which now includes office re-location, storage facilities, full house clearance and a full packaging service.
A recent addition to the services Bennetts Removals provide is a window cleaning service – for a one-off appointment or on a regular arrangement.
